Dedifferentiated Endometrioid Adenocarcinoma of the Uterus: Highly Aggressive and Poor Prognostic Tumor

© 2014 The Korean Society of Pathologists/The Korean Society for Cytopathology This is an Open Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/ by-nc/3.0) which permits unrestricted non-commercial use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. pISSN 1738-1843 eISSN 2092-8920 Dedifferentiated endometrioid adenocarcinoma (DEAC) is a recently described, rare uterine neoplasm containing both lowgrade endometrioid adenocarcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma. Undifferentiated carcinoma in DEAC may originate secondary to transformation or dedifferentiation of low-grade endometrioid adenocarcinoma and appears to be more aggressive than endometrial endometrioid adenocarcinoma. The undifferentiated component in DEAC can be misdiagnosed as the solid component of grade 3 endometrioid adenocarcinoma. Therefore, accurate diagnosis of this neoplasm is important in treatment and prognosis. Here we report a case of DEAC of the uterus.
